In a challenging qualifying session at the United States Grand Prix, Williams drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant will start from the back two rows of the grid, in 18th and 20th positions respectively. Despite a promising start to the day with Albon in 7th and Sargeant in 11th during the weekend’s sole practice session, the balance of their cars shifted significantly during qualifying.

Following their initial timed runs in Q1, Albon found himself in 16th place, while Sargeant faced challenges after a time deletion for track limits at Turn 12, placing him in 20th. Despite their efforts to improve, both drivers were unable to progress further in the intensely competitive qualifying session.

Reflecting on the session, Albon shared, “The car was quite different from FP1. I was feeling a little disconnected, which can happen when the wind picks up. It meant that getting a clean lap was very difficult, and my lap just wasn’t that good. The car was better than Q1 today, so it’s a bit frustrating.”

Sargeant echoed his teammate’s sentiments, saying, “It was a really tricky session. The car felt completely upside down from this morning so it’s strange. We’ll have to look into it and see what we can do better tomorrow.”

In contrast to Albon and Sargeant’s challenges, it was a more successful qualifying for other Asian drivers. Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu secured 12th place, narrowly missing out on a spot in Q3. The performances of all three Asian drivers underlined their competitive spirit on the Formula 1 grid.
