Chinese driver Leo Ye went fastest in the final minutes of the second practice session for the 12 Hours of Sepang, putting his R&B Racing #44 Porsche on top of the timesheets by half a tenth.

For much of the session, the quickest time was held by Cheng Congfu in the #31 Phantom Global Racing Audi. Cheng set a 2:03.731s early on in the session.

But with just 10 minutes to go, Ye shot to the top of the timings in the #44 R&B Racing Porsche. He initially set a lap that was 0.038s quicker than Cheng’s time, but Ye bettered his own lap by 0.011s just a few minutes later.

Cheng finished the session with the second-fastest time for Phantom Global Racing. The team’s sister car, the #13 Porsche, finished third.

In fourth was the EBM Porsche, which was 0.370s behind Ye’s time at the top. The Porsche 911 GT3 R that EBM is racing this weekend is the older 991.2 model.

The fifth-placed car was the #26 Audi from Absolute Racing. It topped the first practice session earlier in the day.

The second session was run from 11 am until 12.30 pm.

That timing gave the teams a representative taste of the expected conditions in Saturday’s race, which will be run from 10 am until 10 pm.

The #4 Grove Racing Mercedes and #216 Modena Motorsports Porsche Cup both took to the track in the second practice session after choosing not to run in the first practice session.

Grove Racing finished eighth fastest overall in the second session while Modena Motorsports was the second-fastest in the GTC class.

There were only two red flags during the second practice session.

The red flags were for stoppages of the #7 Vortex Racegraph Lamborghini and later the #33 Harmony Racing Ferrari, though both cars got back to the pits.

Qualifying for the 12 Hours of Sepang gets underway later today, at 3 pm local time.

It is expected to last for about two hours as all drivers must set a lap time.
