Asian Motorsport reviews the action from race one of the third round of the Italian F4 championship at Vallelunga.

Race one of the third round of the Italian Formula 4 Championship was held at 15.45am local time.

Hiyu Yamakoshi started third and successfully defended the position as US Racing’s Matheus Ferreira fiercely attacked the Japanese driver. Just behind them, a battle between the Prema Racing teammates was raging on, with Dion Gowda attacking Alex Powell in the early laps of the race.

The battle soon turned into disaster however, as Gowda hit the back of Powell’s car, giving a puncture to the latter and a broken wing to the former.

Chaos wouldn’t stop there as a few corners later, R-ace GP driver Enzo Yeh was hit by Tomass Stolcermanis, just after Tornantino, and was sent into the wall, ending his race on the second lap. As Gowda entered the pits to replace his front wing, the safety car was called on track to neutralise the race as the marshals had to move Yeh’s car.

With sixteen minutes to go, the safety car came in and the race restarted, but it wasn’t long before chaos struck again, as Kean Nakamura-Berta had a trip on the grass out of Tornantino. As the Japanese-Slovakian rejoined, the field around him had bunched up to avoid a Jenzer having a small trip in the gravel just ahead.

This chaotic situation ended up in the other Jenzer of Shimo Zhang, going into the final corner, hit a PHM and also Nakamura-Berta, before heading into the gravel and out of the race, as the Alpine Junior driver received rear wing damage and was also forced to retire.

The safety car would come out as a result, only coming back in with eight minutes to go, but the race would soon be stopped as a big crash in the final sector, involving Kabir Anurag, brought the race to an end, as after the safety car was called, a red flag was soon displayed, making the race end prematurely.

Yamakoshi held on to third, Al Dhaheri climbed up to P4 and Bohra finished P7. Further down the field, Dion Gowda climbed back up to P21, Anurag was classified P29, and Kean Nakamura-Berta, Shimo Zhang and Enzo Yeh all retired from the race.
