2022 Porsche Supercup champion Dylan Pereira is confident he can break the winning streak of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia championship leader Alessandro Ghiretti.

Porsche junior Ghiretti leads the Carrera Cup Asia standings after achieving five wins in the first six races.

Pereira sits second in the standings, 37 points behind Ghiretti after amassing one win, four podiums, and two poles.

Ghiretti’s advantage over Pereira was slim last weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.

In the two qualifying sessions, Ghiretti beat Pereira to pole position by just 0.095s and 0.012s.

While Pereira struggled in the first race that Ghiretti won comfortably, the second race was a lot closer and Pereira piled significant pressure on Ghiretti.

The pair fought hard for the lead over several laps, even making light contact on lap two when Ghiretti passed Pereira at turn three.

In the end, Ghiretti won again, beating Pereira by just 1.3 seconds.

After the second race, Pereira told Asian Motorsport that he and his team had improved significantly between the two races.

“At the end, the car was definitely a lot better, I could fight for the win, so I think we learn from it, just try to be faster on the setups for the next round,” he said.

Pereira said he had shown what he could do and when his car was right, he could beat Ghiretti.

“We just have to really focus to make the car faster straightaway for qualifying already to be in front of him and after this, we can still beat him,” he said.

“He won five [races in a row], nothing says that I cannot win the next five.”

Pereira described Ghiretti as a good driver and said he was with a good team that knew a lot of setups from the year before.

“We are a new team so we have to find everything out so that’s a new challenge also for me,” he said.

Pereira races for the Phantom Global Racing team, which made its race debut at the Bathurst 12 Hour earlier this year.

“I think we are doing quite a decent job, still not the best I think, but we have to work harder than them and beat them next time.”

The next round of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia is at the Bangsaen street circuit in Thailand’s Chonburi province on July 5-7.
