After a thrilling season opener at Sepang International Circuit, the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia (LSTA) Championship shifts gears to The Bend Motorsport Park in Australia for the second round of the season this weekend. Asian Motorsport previews the action.

By the Asian Motorsport Team

Round one of LSTA at Sepang delivered intense competition and standout performances. Defending champion Marco Giltrap and series newcomer Clay Osborne drove for Absolute Racing and secured back-to-back victories. The pair have established an early lead in the Pro category and set a high bar for their rivals.

Japan’s Miki Koyama and Macau’s Charles Leong Hon Chio, racing for SJM Iron Lynx Theodore Racing, made an impressive series debut after finishing second in both races. Arrows Racing’s line-up of Gavin Huang and Jonathan Cecotto rounded out the podium in race one, with DW Evans GT’s Dan Wells and French newcomer Emilien Carde taking third in race two.

In the Pro-Am category, André Couto and Chen Fangping of Madness Racing Team clinched two victories ahead of defending class champions DW Evans GT’s all-new line-up of Thomas Lee and Nikolas Pirttilahti.

The Am class saw competitive battles with YK Motorsports by Star Performance’s Nattanid ‘Kat’ Leewattanavalagul and Dechathorn ‘Phu’ Phuakkarawut taking the win in race one, and SQDA–GRIT Motorsport’s Brian Lee emerging victorious in race two.

Lamborghini Cup was dominated by HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing’s Haziq and Hairie Oh, who secured both wins to lead the category standings.

What to expect as LSTA heads down under

Teams and drivers are gearing up for another round of intense racing as the championship heads to The Bend Motorsport Park. The series will race on the circuit’s 4.95 kilometre-long International Circuit, known for its fast straights and technical corners.

Fierce competition in the Pro category

Giltrap and Osborne will be keen to extend their lead in the Pro category, but they will face fierce competition. Koyama and Leong are eager to claim their first victory, whilst the strong pairings of Arrows Racing and DW Evans GT will look to disrupt the Absolute Racing duo’s dominance. Harmony Racing will also be lining up with drivers Weian Chen and Jiatong Liang.

More drivers in the mix in Pro-Am

Couto and Chen from Madness Racing Team will aim to continue their winning streak, but DW Evans GT’s Yu Lee and Pirttilahti are close on their heels. Round two sees two more driver pairings join Pro-Am, courtesy of the Malaysian Arrows Racing pairing of Selim Rafique and Jazeman Jaffar and the Chinese-Australian D1 Racing duo of Adrian Deltz and Tony D’Alberto.

With the Pro-Am category effectively doubled after the season opener in Sepang, fans can look forward to some thrilling action in this highly competitive class.

Thrilling Am class battle one to watch

The Am class battle will be one to watch, with Brian Lee and the Thai duo of Kat and Phu each having tasted victory in Sepang. Both teams will push hard to gain an advantage in the standings, whilst other competitors like True Vision Motorsports Thailand’s Suttiluck ‘Bobby’ Buncharoen will also be aiming for the top step of the podium.

Driver pairings such as Racegraph’s Haowen Luo and Jiajung Song and Arrows Racing’s Johnson Huang and Vincent Tai will be looking to make their mark. In addition to this, Madness Racing will be fielding another car in LSTA with their new Am pairing of Shije Hong and Xinyang He at The Bend.

A race for the lead in Lamborghini Cup

The Oh brothers of HZO Fortis Racing Team have a commanding lead, but defending champion Supachai Weeraborwornpong is determined to close the gap. The competition in this class is expected to be fierce, with every point crucial in the championship battle.

In addition to season regular Kumar Prabakaran, JAM Motorsport’s all-Australian line-up of Mark Pearce and JP Drake will be on the grid at the Bend. This new entry could add an interesting dynamic to the Lamborghini Cup championship.

The unique challenges of this Australian circuit promise to deliver another round of captivating racing. Fans can expect close battles, strategic overtakes, and potential new victors as the 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia championship continues to unfold.

Stay tuned for an exhilarating weekend of motorsport from June 7 to 9, as the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 cars roar into action at The Bend.
