Chinese team Climax Racing has entered an Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II in the 12 Hours of Sepang, which takes place on March 14-16 at the Sepang International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Climax Racing Audi will be driven by Li Dongsheng, Li Donghui, Yang Ruoyu and Zhou Bihuang.

Zhou is the 2023 Pro-Am runner-up in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and he is fresh from winning the 24 Hours of Dubai with Eastalent Racing Team in January.

All four drivers have raced with Climax Racing before.

In October’s Shanghai 8 hours, Li, Li and Yang drove Climax Racing’s #777 Audi and finished third in the GT3 Am class.

In the same race, Zhou drove the Climax Racing #555 Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo and, after mechanical issues, finished sixth in class.

Climax Racing is a well-known team in Asia. It has competed in the Chinese Endurance Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, GT World Challenge Asia, and the FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

‘To win the race will be a big challenge’

Climax Racing team manager Eric Gao told Asian Motorsport the 12 Hours of Sepang would be the team’s first endurance race outside of China.

Still, Climax Racing has previously raced at Sepang in series like GT World Challenge Asia.

Gao said the Sepang International Circuit was very challenging. “Daytime it will be super hot and from the afternoon we should get ready for rain at any time,” he said.

Gao said his team members are very familiar with endurance racing.

Asked about his confidence that Climax Racing could win, Gao said: “I am very confident with their performance to win in their class. But with [a] full Am line-up to win the race will be a big challenge for us.”

Still, he added: “Endurance racing is very unpredictable, especially the weather. Anything is possible.”

Gao said Climax Racing has updated their race and IT equipment during the break between seasons.

The team’s Audi also has a striking new black and purple livery, which Gao described as “really cool”.
